Syracuse Housing Development

The Syracuse housing development project was driven by a first-time developer who wished to construct a townhouse community with mix-use commercial uses on a suburban plot of land. The site is located at the intersection of Route # 11 and Interstate # 90. To use this to the project’s advantage all the commercial uses were zoned on the south east corner of the site for easy access from Route #11 and visibility from motorists on I-90.

Sensitive to the site conditions, an existing small wetland located centrally was maintained and landscaped as a community park for the surrounding residential units to enjoy. Furthermore, to protect the environmental quality and ecosystems, certain measures were taken to prevent contamination. For example, the parking area for the commercial area is closed off from the wetland through the implementation of a U-shaped building. Greenroofs were also employed to prevent toxic run-off as well as provides outdoor space for the housing units.
